MCP server manifest checker (.well-known/mcp.json)
Group D4 pointsrubric r1
We fetch /.well-known/mcp.json (or /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json), parse it, then send an initialize request to the endpoint URL it declares.
Why it matters
MCP lets an agent attach to your tools with no custom integration. A manifest with nothing answering behind it is worse than none, because the agent tries and fails. A valid manifest scores 2; an endpoint that replies with JSON-RPC to initialize brings it to 4.
How to fix it
- Publish JSON at
/.well-known/mcp.jsonwith aurlorendpointfield. - Point that URL at an MCP server that accepts POST with
Content-Type: application/json. - Make the server answer the
initializemethod with a JSON-RPC result. - Return JSON with a JSON content type, not an HTML page.
How to verify
Run curl -s https://example.com/.well-known/mcp.json | jq . and POST an initialize request to the endpoint it names.
